Congratulations to the Boston Trained Bands for being selected the winners of this year’s Huzzah! Helm.  Rich Claydon and the club have been tremendous supporters of Huzzah! and historical gaming, and we are delighted to recognize their contributions to the convention.  This year their members organized and ran several terrific games, as they do every year.  In conjunction with the Black Powder New England group, Boston Trained Band members organized the Leipzig game Sunday of the convention, which was really the anchor event for that entire day.  None of us could remember seeing so many players staying so late into the day on the Sunday of the show.  Congratulations, and thank you, to the members of the Boston Trained Bands.

HUZZAH 2013 After Action Report Submitted by Jim Flanagan

Huzzah!  2013 is in the books and it is time to look back and take stock of all that happened over an amazing weekend of wargaming.  My first impression on walking into the main gaming room was that there were a lot more people at this convention than last year.  Although all of the final numbers have not been tallied up yet, we did see pre-registrations grow by 23%.  This translated into approximately 225 gamers and vendors gathering over the weekend.  I think that we might even see the final tally a little higher than this since I walked around the hall at 10:30 on Saturday night and counted 115 people still playing games and this was after the ancillary rooms had closed and many of the vendors had called it a day.

This was posted/sent by Rich Claydon of Boston Trained Bands and the Black Powder New England Yahoo! Group….

“Thanks to everyone who helped make the Battle of Leipzig a huge success at the Huzzah Wargaming Convention in Portland Maine on Sunday May 5, 2013. A total of 20 players commanded brigades and division across 4 tables representing the battle for the bridges in the west at Lindenau, the northern battle Mockern, the Pleisse River and the main battle on a table 18′ long! There are already some great photos being posted on the web and facebook.  I’ll try and put together an AAR when I can figure out what happened to much action going on so I’ll need some reports for various commanders, but here are some highlights:  [Read more...]

Ross Mac writes about Huzzah!

IMG_20130504_144517

Ross Macfarlane has written a terrific after action report about the convention.  His own game, Fort MacDuff, won a Huzzah! Battle Honor for Best of Session.  This was a beautiful game in 40mm, which he was good enough to run not once, but twice.

Read Ross Mac’s post on his Battle Game of the Month blog.

Adam Carriere has completed three blog posts about Huzzah! 2013 already- with lots of photos.  Those of you who were at Huzzah! may recognize Adam as the GM who ran the 15mm Invasion of England BP game in the Saturday morning session.  In addition to writing about his own game, Adam has also posted about the Battle of Portland and War at Sea games in which he participated at Huzzah!

Blog 017

Here is a great blog posting about AJ’s visit to Huzzah!, complete with photos and a video.  It sounds as though the painting session with Eric Jones of Hotspur Historicals was excellent, and you can read more about it at Aj’s blog.  Thanks to AJ for such a nice write-up!

That really was three great days of gaming and camaraderie!  Thank you to the game masters, vendors, attendees, sponsors, and organizers who made the convention such a success.  I arrived home exhausted, but still excited about the weekend, too.

Look for a full After Action Report in the coming days.  In the meanwhile, I will be posting links to blogs and photos from other attendees.  Photos can be found on our Facebook page.  This photo of Ross firing the guns I particularly like!
